The Global Wildlife Center is coming to TerraBella on July 10 for Family Day!

The Global Wildlife Center is coming to TerraBella on July 10 from 11:00 to 1:00 and will provide a lot of fun activities for the kids. The Family Day event will take place at TerraBella's lake park, which is located across the street from the Southern Living Idea House. Let the kids play while you tour the house!
The Global Wildlife Center in Folsom, Louisiana is home to over 4,000 exotic, endangered, and threatened animals from all over the world. Their Adventure Wagon Tours allow families to get up close and personal to these animals that roam freely across their wildlife preservation. We are excited to have the Global Wildlife Center bring their fun to TerraBella!

GrayHawk Perkins, Native American Storyteller, will also be on site for this Family Day event. His performances are part story and music, as he integrates stories into original compositions and traditional songs. Members of the audience become part of the story by acting out, singing and learning friendship songs. GrayHawk performs regularly through Young Audiences Louisiana/Arts For Learning, a non-profit arts-in-education organization that serves approximately 200,000 school children in Louisiana each year. Music, Theater, Dance, Poetry and Storytelling and Visual Arts programs are developed to enhance and reinforce curriculum guidelines.

Ginger Finnan, featured Jeweler of the Southern Living Idea House, will perform jewelry demonstrations and will be selling her amazing line of jewelry all day. Ginger has created a special collection of jewelry for TerraBella and the Idea House and is receiving great reviews. We will feature Ginger and her jewelry collection on our website and in a future blog post.

Southern Living Idea House Breaks Record at TerraBella!!!

The 2010 Southern Living Idea House in TerraBella opened its doors to the public on June 12 and it received such positive response that it set a record of the highest attendance for any Southern Living Idea House to date during an opening weekend!!! This is quite an accomplishment considering that some of the past Idea Houses were located in larger metropolitan areas such as Atlanta, GA and Orlando, FL and the Idea House program has been in existance for over 20 years!

Southern Living Home Groups Executive Director, Kristen Payne made the announcement Monday morning.

"The Southern Living Idea House in Covington has hit an all time record for opening weekend attendance,” said Ms. Payne. “We are so excited to be so well received in such a wonderful community as Covington."

The Northshore community and Southern Living Idea House followers showed up in great volume to see the beautiful house and to enjoy local favorites. From 11AM – 1PM, Chef John Besh signed copies of his cookbook in the Idea House kitchen, and Friends Coastal Restaurant and Pontchartrain Vineyards provided refreshing food and wine samples. Local artisan Ginger Finnan, aka “The Redhead Lady”, displayed and sold signature jewelry designs.
Other events are scheduled during select weekends at the Idea House. These events include a live performance and CD signing by fiddler Amanda Shaw on July 24, a cooking demonstration by Chef Louie Finnan of Louie and the Redhead Lady and a live performance by Christian Serpas and Ghost Town. The next event is scheduled for July 10, and will be a family day with Global Wildlife Center and Native American Storyteller Grayhawk Perkins. Many thanks to the Saint Tammany Parish Tourism Commission for bringing these great events to TerraBella!!!!

Ron Lee, owner of Hearthstone Homes, is the President of the St. Tammany Parish Homebuilder's Association President and TerraBella builder said, "We had a very successful 2010 Parade with just at 1,000 visitors to our parade home. We heard nothing but positive comments from everyone about Terra Bella and everyone agrees that it is a great concept and the way of our future. We know that at least one home sold direct from the parade – congrats Bruno construction - and we also have a few other customers who have purchased lots and will be building soon. This was a great event for all. As President of the Home Builder’s Assoc, I am very pleased that the developers and builders participated and look forward to next year’s Parade of Homes being even bigger for Terra Bella."

Come see why Southern Living Magazine chose TerraBella Village for their house!

Aptly named Bayou Bend, the Southern Living 2010 Louisiana Idea House is a unique mixture of Creole and Craftsman style inspired from turn of the century period homes found in small towns throughout St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana.

“We are thrilled to return to Louisiana with an Idea House and excited to partner with Southern Living builder, Wayne Miller, and developers of TerraBella”, said Kristen Payne, Executive Director of the Southern Living Homes Group. “TerraBella offers the lifestyle and amenities we look for in selecting an Idea House neighborhood. We southerners live both inside and outside our homes, so a sense of place is so important. This home is authentic Louisiana “gumbo;” a balanced blend of architectural styles on the outside and welcoming spaces inside.”

The house is designed by award-winning Mandeville architect, Michael A. Piazza, of Piazza Architecture Planning and built by Miller Building Company, Metairie, LA. Interior designers for the project are Grace Kaynor and Vesta Fort and landscape architecture by Brian Sublette of Daly-Sublette Landscape Architects, Inc, all of New Orleans.

Lakefront vistas and gracious courtyard-living add to the interior casual elegance of Bayou Bend. The two level main house contains 3,589 square feet of living area and 629 square feet of upper and lower porches. The first floor features an inviting open foyer, dining, family, kitchen and breakfast booth accented by exposed heavy wood beams and columns. The second floor includes a central library/game area, three bedroom suites including the gracious master that opens to the front porch.

A detached Carriage House features a two-car garage below an open, 548 sq. ft., studio with a small working kitchen and full bath. The sloped ceiling, accented with a glass cupola and exposed wood beams, offers great character to this bonus space. The Carriage House adds another 548 square feet of living, 548 square feet of garage and 68 square feet of balconies.

The developer selected Children’s Museum of St. Tammany, the signature project of The Junior League of Greater Covington, as the charity to benefit from a portion of admission sales. The Junior League of Greater Covington will oversee ticket sales and tours over the three months open to the public.

The house will be open for public tours June 12- September 12, 2010, and it is expected to draw as many as 30,000 visitors from across the country. Southern Living will feature the Louisiana Idea House in the August 2010 issue of its magazine, which reaches nearly 16 million readers each month. Based in Birmingham, Ala., it is the fifth largest monthly consumer magazine in the U.S.
